Terms and Conditions
Last updated: July 27, 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of One Year, a Jewish dating club for marriage-minded singles (the "Service"), operated by AL Consulting LLC ("One Year," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can join
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding agreement to use the Service. The Service is intended for people who are single and dating with the sincere intention of marriage. You agree to provide true, accurate, and current information about yourself, to maintain only one account, and not to impersonate anyone or misrepresent your identity, age, or marital status.
2. Membership, fees, and refunds
Membership costs $18 and lasts for one year from the date your membership begins. This is a one-time charge that does not automatically renew; we will not charge you again to maintain membership, and your membership simply ends when the year is up unless you choose to renew. The join fee covers the cost of running the club and reviewing applications.
All fees are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law. The join fee is non-refundable once your membership begins, and the matchmaking fee (shadchanus) described below is offered only after a successful match, so there is nothing to refund. If you believe you were charged in error, email support@oneyeardating.com and we will look into it.
3. The matchmaking fee (shadchanus)
In keeping with the Jewish tradition in which a matchmaker ("shadchan") is thanked upon a successful match, a shadchanus of $1,800 is customarily offered when One Year is the vehicle through which a couple becomes engaged. It is customarily shared between the couple and is owed only after the outcome — never while you are still searching, and never as a condition of using the Service.
The shadchanus is a customary, honor-based commitment offered in gratitude for a successful match. It is not a subscription, a finder's fee charged in advance, or an enforceable debt, and using the Service does not obligate you to pay it. We may invite engaged members to "close the circle" by honoring this custom and sharing their good news so the community can celebrate with them.
4. Verification and human review
Every application and dating resume is reviewed by a human before it joins the pool, and members verify their identity through LinkedIn. We do this to keep the community intentional and to reduce anonymous or fake profiles. However, we do not conduct criminal background checks or verify every statement a member makes. Verification is not a guarantee of anyone's identity, character, intentions, or safety.
5. How the Service works
- You build a dating resume that rewards substance over photos.
- You browse the full pool, shuffled at random.
- You may send at most three connection requests per day.
- There is no in-app messaging. When both people agree, you meet on a short video call.
- If you both want to continue, you exchange contact information and take it from there. One Year then steps out of the way.
We may change, limit, or discontinue features of the Service at any time.
6. Community guidelines
Members agree to be a mensch. That means:
- Be honest in your resume and in how you present yourself.
- Show up if you say you are going to show up.
- Treat people with kindness and respect.
You agree not to harass, threaten, deceive, or exploit other members; not to solicit money, promote a business, or use the Service for anything other than sincere dating; and not to share another member's private information or media without their consent. We may suspend or remove any account that violates these guidelines, at our discretion.
7. Your safety and conduct off-platform
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other members, including any communication or meeting that happens off the Service. Use good judgment, meet in public when meeting for the first time, and never send money to someone you have met through the Service. One Year is not responsible for the conduct of any member, online or offline.
8. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@oneyeardating.com if you believe your account has been compromised. You may close your account at any time.
9. Content you provide
You retain ownership of the content you submit — your resume, photos, and other information. You grant One Year a limited license to host, display, and share that content with other members and as needed to operate the Service. You are responsible for having the rights to everything you post and for ensuring it is accurate and not unlawful.
10. No guarantee of results
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that you will receive requests, meet anyone, form a connection, or become engaged or married. Dating outcomes depend on many factors outside our control.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, One Year and AL Consulting LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for the conduct of any member. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify members. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where the consumer protection laws of your state of residence provide rights that cannot be waived.
